I had the pleasure of meeting Patricia Neely-Dorsey at an event in New Albany last week. Her hopes and positive outlook for the state of Mississippi are infectious!
Meet my Mississippi is an excellent resource for parents and teachers. The illustrations make Patricia Neely-Dorsey's poem about Mississippi come to life. The poem's positive message about the state of Mississippi is a captivating work of art, but this book is something that every Mississippian should read. As a lifelong Mississippian (who is a student of the state), I found this book delightful. It pointed out so many great facts about the state that I knew and taught me some new ones as well. At the end of the book there is trivia, discussion questions, vocabulary, sight words, a review and more! As a former teacher and current homeschool mom, I can't say enough about this book.
This book would make a great introduction to a unit on the state for those studying Mississippi or U.S. geography in general. The book helps teachers and parents develop an entire unit since the book includes discussion questions, trivia, and so many great resources on top of the gorgeous illustrations and great poem. I think this book should be in every classroom and home library.
Stay tuned as I dive further into the book and show just how amazing a tool this book is for geography and the study of Mississippi.
Patricia Neely-Dorsey also has two other books that you should check out:
